Friends of the Arboretum: 2024 Annual Meeting on January 27th, 3-5pm

You’re invited to join us for The Friends of the Arboretum’s 2024 Annual Meeting on January 27 from 3-5pm in the New Hanover County Arboretum's Education Center.

Socialize with other members, learn about business updates and volunteer opportunities with The Friends of the Arboretum (The Friends), and hear from renowned speaker and author Frank Hyman about ‘How to Forage for Mushrooms Without Dying.” 

Frank Hyman is a professional mushroom hunter, certified to sell wild mushrooms to the public. He teaches workshops across the country on mushroom foraging and identification, and has written about mushroom foraging for publications such as Paleo magazine, Hobby Farms, and Modern Farmer. He is a member of the North American Mycological Association, lives in Durham, North Carolina, and forages everywhere he travels. Hyman is a graduate of NC State University, having studied under JC Raulston and others.  He is highly entertaining and informative; You won't want to miss this free event for Friends Members only!  Please RSVP to attend.

The presentation will be followed with a Q&A and book signing. Hyman's books-- How to Forage for Mushrooms Without Dying & Hentopia: How to Create a Hassle-Free Habitate for Happy Chickens-- will be available for purchase at the event, and in the Arboretum Gift Shop. Small bites from Sea Level City Diner, mocktails, and dessert will also be provided, and four $25 gift cards to the Arboretum Gift Shop will be given away as a door prize!
