The Friends are working in conjunction with the NC Cooperative Extension at the NHC Arboretum to provide tips and fact sheets regarding the proper planting and maintenance of the trees you purchase. The tree sale is available to anyone living within the Cape Fear Area (Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties).
Focus: Unique trees for gardens with small footprints and fruiting trees to start building food forests in gardens and neighborhoods. Trees are lovingly handpicked by industry professionals who are Arboretum volunteers.
Goal: Raise funds for the maintenance of and enhancements to the Arboretum gardens and support of Extension programming through the Arboretum.
Sale Dates: Friday, September 10, 2021 to Sunday, October 10, 2021
Member Delivery Dates: September 15-18, 2021 and October 15-17, 2021
(when you make a purchase and you choose the delivery option, indicate which date works best for you)
Member Benefits: Friends of the New Hanover County Arboretum will receive the following:
- 10% discount on tree purchases
- free delivery of merchandise to the member within a 40 mile radius
Non-Members: $35 delivery charge within a 40 mile radius will be added to the purchase
Arboretum Pick Up Dates:
If you prefer to pick up your order at the Arboretum, that will be an option this year. Here is the schedule:
Friday, September 24 between 1 and 4 p.m.
Saturday, September 25 between 9 and 12 a.m.
Friday, October 22 between 1 and 4 p.m.
Saturday, October 23 between 9 and 12 a.m.

We offer you some suggestions on how to approach the planting of your trees from the sale.
There are two videos with instructions on how to plant trees. The first one is a demonstration performed by Kevin Cassel, Grounds Maintenance Supervisor, with the Arboretum titled "Tree Planting using the Root Ball Bracing Method."
The second video is a demonstration provided by New Hanover County's Parks and Recreation Department.
