Description
Live oak is a large tree with a short massive trunk, long branches, and a very broad crown. The branches grow horizontally and can reach 100 feet. In the south, they are often seen draped with Spanish moss. It prefers slightly damp to somewhat dry clay, loam, or sandy soils and is native to the southern coastal plain. It is highly adaptive and can tolerate both drought and occasional flooding. The wood is strong and heavy and one of the densest of native trees. Use as a shade tree for large lawns or parks. This tree is grown in South Carolina. It is an A grade tree with a 1.75-2" caliper, 3"diameter tree trunk, and 9-10' tall.
